Quemix selected for Q-STAR and Plug and Play Japan quantum startup support program
On September 10, 2026, Quemix announced it has been chosen as one of five companies selected for the “Quantum Startup Support Program” run by Q-STAR and Plug and Play Japan. The company will receive three months of individualized support aimed at advancing the practical and industrial application of quantum computers in materials calculation and simulation.
Announcement overview
Under the program, representatives from Q-STAR and Plug and Play Japan will provide tailored business development support to the selected companies. Q-STAR is an organization promoting the industrialization of quantum technology, with more than 160 participating companies, universities, and research institutions, while Plug and Play Japan offers business development expertise and network access. The program is being conducted as part of R&D within the Cabinet Office’s Strategic Innovation Creation Program (SIP) Phase 3, “Promotion of applications of advanced quantum technology infrastructure to social issues.” The research promotion organization is the Quantum Science and Technology Research and Development Organization (QST). Quemix is a company engaged in R&D for quantum computers, quantum sensors, and materials calculation, and is a consolidated subsidiary of Terrasky. It has developed a quantum chemistry calculation algorithm for fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQC), the Probabilistic Imaginary Time Evolution method (PITE®), and holds domestic patent rights.
Key points
- Quemix was selected as one of five companies for the quantum startup support program
- The support period is three months, during which Q-STAR and Plug and Play Japan will provide individualized business development support
- The program is conducted as part of R&D under the Cabinet Office’s SIP Phase 3
- Quemix aims to commercialize and industrialize quantum computers in the areas of materials calculation and simulation
Technical and business implications
This selection gives Quemix an opportunity to not only continue R&D on its FTQC‑oriented algorithms and materials calculation technologies but also to concretize use cases and business models. Access to Q-STAR’s industrial infrastructure and Plug and Play Japan’s business development network is meaningful for expanding connections with industry. However, partner details, demonstration content, funding amounts, and commercialization timelines have not been announced, so the selection itself does not guarantee concrete commercialization outcomes.
What to watch next
Going forward, attention will focus on whether the three months of support produce concrete target areas for materials calculation and simulation. Evidence such as demonstration plans and evaluation results using technologies like PITE®, and whether collaborations with companies and research institutions are formalized, will be important indicators. It will also be important to see whether customer projects or a commercialization roadmap are disclosed after the program concludes.
